"Four ports Linkage" chain Global Weihai to create cross-border logistics "golden corridor"

Date:2023-02-27

On February 24, the memorandum of Understanding on the trial operation of China-South Korea multimodal transport (Weihai-Incheon) took effect, which marked the substantial progress of the logistics integration of "four ports linkage" jointly promoted by Weihai and Incheon in recent years, and provided a policy basis for the start of vehicle transport business, clearing the obstacles for the trial operation of vehicle transport between China and South Korea.

In five years, from the launch of the "four ports linkage" vehicle transportation to the effective of the Memorandum of Understanding, Weihai has made every step of its international development solid, sonous and brilliant.

As the Shandong Peninsula National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, the China-South Korea Free Trade Zone local economic cooperation demonstration zone, and the national service trade innovation and development pilot city, Weihai has deeply integrated into the "four-port linkage", that is, Weihai Port, airport, Incheon port, airport linkage development, to establish a major international logistics channel connecting Japan and South Korea in the east, Europe and Asia in the west, and affecting the central and western inland regions. We will strive to build an important hub connecting domestic and international double cycles, providing a new model and experience for regional connectivity and cooperation in Northeast Asia.

This is another important step in Weihai's internationalization development process, as well as an innovative move of China-South Korea local economic cooperation. Aiming at the construction of "big market", "big platform" and "big channel", Weihai embraces the world with a more open and inclusive attitude, builds an efficient, convenient and economical logistics channel, and stimulates the development vitality of new industries, new business forms and new models. To expand the space for replacing old growth drivers with new ones, carry out "double introduction and double introduction", and optimize and upgrade the industrial structure, we will provide first-mover advantages, and promote industrial cooperation and interconnected development with Japan, the ROK, countries along the Belt and Road and the world at large.

"Land, sea and land" combined transport to open up the international logistics channel

Expand the global logistics "circle of friends", Weihai, multimodal transport, four ports linkage, construction of transnational logistics sea, land and air three-dimensional fast channel.

In 2015, the Weihai and Incheon Free Economic zones were included in the China-South Korea Free Trade Agreement as demonstration zones for local economic cooperation. Taking this opportunity, Weihai took advantage of its geographical advantages adjacent to Japan and South Korea and put forward the innovative measure of "four ports linkage", namely the blueprint for the joint development of Weihai Port and airport, Incheon port and airport.

From the "brushwork" of the top-level design to the "meticulous painting" of the implementation, a multimodal transport service system with perfect facilities, linkage, wisdom and efficiency is taking shape.

The "four-port linkage" has built a China-South Korea logistics golden channel with Weihai and Incheon as the fulcrum, and established a three-dimensional air, sea and land transportation system. In the air, Weihai has opened passenger routes to Incheon, Cheongju, Daegu and other places in South Korea. Chartered cargo flights to Incheon will operate 18 times a week. In the maritime area, nine sea routes to South Korea have been opened, with 21 flights a week. Weihai Port has actively integrated into the overall situation of provincial port integration and opened more than 20 domestic and foreign routes. In terms of railway, Weihai International Logistics Multimodal Transport Center and supporting industrial Park phase I have been completed and put into operation, and railway freight trains to Duisburg in Germany, Tashkent in Uzbekistan, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, and Moscow in Russia have been opened in Central Europe, Central Asia, Mongolia and Russia, realizing regular operation.

This is the far east of Shandong Province and the new starting point of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Relying on the three-dimensional external transportation system, the logistics channel connecting Japan and South Korea in the east and Europe and Asia in the west has been built, opening up the logistics channel between Shandong and its domestic hinterland, Japan and South Korea, Europe and the United States, and making Weihai a hub node connecting the China-South Korea Free Trade Zone and the "Belt and Road" with the help of the Eurasian freight train, providing a convenient channel for the cooperation between Japan and South Korea and countries along the "Belt and Road". It provides a new path to promote Weihai and Shandong to participate in the construction of "One Belt and One Road", and promote the cooperation between China and South Korea to explore the third market, so as to facilitate the rapid economic development and higher level opening up of Weihai and Shandong.
