9200 parking spaces! 'BYD CHANGSHA' has officially launched

Date:2025-07-01

The BYD CHANGSHA, a Hong Kong-registered automobile carrier vessel, made its first safe voyage under the guidance of the Nantong Pilotage Station. The ship was built for BYD by the Haimen base of China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. It is equipped with LNG dual-fuel clean power technology and can carry 9,200 vehicles. In response to the complex navigation environment during flood seasons, the Nantong Pilotage Station has formulated a precise pilotage plan tailored to each vessel to ensure the safe departure of ships.

On June 27, under the guidance of Nantong pilot station, the Hong Kong based motor transport ship "BYD CHANGSHA" safely left the wharf of China Merchants heavy industry Haimen base and made its maiden voyage to Taicang.

"BYD CHANGSHA" is the first 9200 vehicle dual fuel vehicle carrier built by China Merchants industrial Haimen base for BYD Co., Ltd. The ship has a length of 219.9m, a width of 37.7m, a design speed of 19 knots, 16 decks and 9200 standard loading spaces. It is reported that the ship adopts the latest LNG dual fuel clean power technology. In addition to LNG and conventional fuel, it also supports biofuel and has the DNV classification symbol of "ammonia fuel ready and battery ready".

At present, it is a flood season with high water level and rapid flow velocity. Haimen merchants heavy industry wharf is close to the intersection waters of anchorage, ferry and channel. There are many ships coming and going, and the navigation environment is complex. Considering the ship's wide body, large wind area and large blind area for all-round observation, Nantong pilotage station attached great importance to the application, intervened in advance and implemented the "one ship, one policy" accurate pilotage service. First, seize the "tide" window, select a short time before the low tide, avoid the ship's peak flow and enter the channel, meet the berthing requirements on the starboard side of the destination port, and realize the "first time" departure of the ship; Second, multi-party linkage, coordination and communication with maritime affairs, shipping lanes, ship owners, agents, tugs, etc., assessment of safety risks, formulation of safe and reasonable berthing and disembarking plans and emergency plans, implementation of safety measures, and selection of technical backbones for guidance; Third, strengthen shore based support, make full use of CCTV, pilotage monitoring system, Nantong VTS monitoring point and other platforms to monitor ship dynamics in real time and ensure the safety of ship operation.

Next, Nantong pilot station will give full play to the advantages of pilotage technology, actively fulfill the "eight service commitments" of Yangtze River pilotage, and contribute to the development of Nantong marine engineering equipment industry.
