The first 200 TEU pure electric intelligent remote-controlled container ship in the country has commenced construction.

Date:2025-07-01

The first 200TEU pure electric intelligent remote control container ship in China started construction in Wuhan and was jointly built by Shandong Ocean Shipping Group. The ship has the functions of remote control and unmanned driving, and meets the IMO net zero emission standard, with an annual emission reduction of 1645 tons. It is equipped with the first set of submerged battery module with restraining medium in China and innovates the energy supply scheme. It will be put into operation in Qingdao port route in 2026, leading the development of green intelligent shipping.

On June 30, the first 200TEU pure electric intelligent remote control container ship in China, jointly built by Shandong Ocean Shipping Group, the 712 Research Institute of China shipbuilding group and Harbin Engineering University, started construction in Wuhan shipyard.

Guiwenbin, director of the 712 Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Corporation, luzongjun, Secretary of the Party committee and chairman of Zhonggu shipping group, and lvkaidong, member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee, director of the publicity department and director of the United Front Work Department of Harbin Engineering University; Huogaoyuan, Secretary of the Party committee and chairman of Shandong Port Group, and lifengli, deputy secretary of the Party committee, director and general manager, attended the commencement ceremony and jointly started the project in Qingdao. Leaders of Shandong Port Group liuzhongguo, madeliang, sunzhengfu, Han Enze and Gao Ya attended.

As the first commercial pure electric intelligent sea going ship in China, the whole process of the ship is designed with digital technology. It has the functions of remote control, unmanned driving, independent decision-making, intelligent diagnosis and so on. It represents the advanced level of China's intelligent ship research, development and construction. At the same time, the ship technically meets the IMO net zero emission standard. After it is put into operation on both sides of Jiaozhou Bay, it can reduce 1645 tons of waste gas per year, equivalent to the emissions of 60000 ordinary trucks. It has built a demonstration scenario of "wharf shipping storage" whole process intelligent zero carbon transportation, leading the development direction of green intelligent shipping with the concept of zero emission and full autonomy.

In addition, the ship will also be the first pure electric intelligent seagoing ship to apply for R1 intelligent ship symbol. It will rely on Shandong COSCO digital communication and intelligent dispatching platform, integrate the advanced ship electric power control system of CSIC 712 Research Institute, as well as intelligent control technologies such as situation awareness, digital twinning and decision-making control of Harbin Engineering University to realize unmanned remote control in complex waters and autonomous navigation in open waters. After connecting with the automatic container terminal, it will build an unmanned intelligent operation chain from loading and unloading to transportation. The ship is also equipped with the first set of dielectric suppression submerged battery modules in China, innovating and applying the energy supply scheme of high-voltage and low-voltage shore power direct charging and box type power supply all-weather power exchange, which can intelligently switch energy modes according to different scenarios, and promote the energy security practice of electric ships to a new height.

It is understood that the ship will be put into the route from Qingdao port to Qianwan port area of Shandong Port in 2026, gradually expanding to Dongjiakou and Rizhao, and continuously extending to the surrounding ports of Shandong Province. Taking this as a guide, Shandong Port will strive to build the first domestic coastal intelligent transport fleet, continue to improve the level of ship intelligence, and promote the green and sustainable development of China's shipping industry.
